It is wonderful to see so many baby birds around our gardens at this time of year.  Although there are some situations in which they find themselves in trouble, most baby birds which seem to be abandoned are actually under the watchful eye of their parents (who aren't far away).  In these cases it can be detrimental to remove them from their immediate environment.  The links below take you to the RSPB website, which give you more information on how to manage any baby birds you might be worried about.

You may be aware of worrying reports of a new disease which has affected a small number of dogs, one of which was treated locally (not in our practice).  The illness, which is very severe and frequently causes death, seems to be characterised in the first stages by skin lesions which won't heal and progresses to acute kidney failure.  At the moment scientists do not know what causes this illness, but you can read an information sheet by clicking ALABAMA ROT.
