Pigs

Pig medicine has grown to be a major part of our business over the last ten years.  We look after a wide variety of indoor and outdoor herds.  Our pig team can provide advice on management, infectious disease and production.  We can perform on farm post-mortem examinations and are fortunate to be able to work closely with the VLA at Thirsk, facilitating rapid diagnosis and prompt treatment. We provide cost effective quality assurance visits in order to ensure compliance with the regulations.  These are tailored to meet the needs of each client and farm; we like to use the valuable time spent on farms to help farmers to meet the relevant audit requirements (e.g. Freedom Food), whilst taking the opportunity to advise on health and management issues. We offer a pregnancy testing service - our experienced vets and nurses use ultrasound scanners and can visit you regularly to give accurate and unbiased results – an fundamental step in minimising ‘empty days’.We can supply non-prescription (animal health) products at competitive prices – please contact us to discuss your requirements.

Our vaccines are purchased in bulk to mitigate against production shortcomings and lack of supplies. Our prices are very competitive. Our convenient location enables clients to readily drop off samples for post-mortem examination, faecal worm and coccidial egg counts, enabling treatment to be instigated pending further diagnostic tests.

We are proud of the level of personalised service which we offer and would be pleased to talk to you about your requirements.

Mark Allen pictures

Mark Allen, Consultant and Training (Poultry)

Mark spent his formative years in horticulture running his contracts business throughout the UK and Europe. He finally put down roots in England eleven years ago and has spent this time working within the poultry industry for Bowler Eggs. His career has taken him from collecting floor eggs on cold wet mornings in Mid Wales to running and training the Poultry Support teams in husbandry and business management. He has guided many new entrants into the industry through the minefield of equipment, breeds and legislative requirements.

While working as a Senior Consultant he was also responsible for the running of the company farms business so has first-hand knowledge of the impact of the industry on the individual. He has a keen interest in research and development and has collaborated with many others within the poultry industry on multiple projects and trials.

When not working Mark likes spending time in the Peak District with his dog who thinks he’s a mountain goat and has been trying to learn to play the guitar unsuccessfully for the last twenty years!
